Execution Plan

An Execution Plan orchestrates triggers, actions and conditions. To understand the anatomy of an Execution plan, see the link below.

The Basics

There are many individual components that make up an Execution Plan. Let's look over some of the basic parts first:

  1. The Plan Name is where you enter the name for the Execution Plan. It should describe what the Execution Plan does.

  2. The "WHEN" section is where the Trigger(s) for the Execution Plan are selected. The Trigger is a Project Level event that activates the Execution Plan. You can find out more by reading the Triggers documentation.

  3. Conditions help further specify if, how, and why the Actions are activated within an Execution Plan. Find out more about Conditions and Actions by reading the documentation.

    1. The "Add Condition" button allows you to further specify the situation in which a formula should be calculated. Currently, this is done with JQL.

    2. The "Add Action" button allows you to add an action to perform when the Execution Plan is triggered when any associated Conditions are met.

  4. The Edit button allows you to edit the Execution Plan

  5. The Notify button

  6. The Share button allows you to share the Execution Plan with other projects.

Shared Execution Plans

The Shared Execution Plan functionality within Abacus allows you to share Execution Plans with other projects within your Jira Instance. This helps reduce administrative overhead if the same Execution Plan is required in multiple projects.

Sharing an Execution Plan

Sharing an Execution Plan will automatically share any formulas which are being used by the Execution Plan. For the Execution Plan to run, any fields used by the plan will still need to be added to the project screens.

To share an Execution Plan, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Execution Plan you want to share.

  2. Click on the Share icon in the top right corner of the screen.

  3. Select the projects you want to share the Execution Plan with from the drop-down menu.

    1. If you want to share the Execution Plan with all projects in the instance, simply check the box labeled Share with all

  4. Click on the Share button to share with the selected projects.

Un-sharing an Execution Plan

There are two ways to un-share an Execution Plan. You can un-share in one of the following two ways:

  1. Unshare with all projects in the instance.

  2. Unshare with specific projects and leave it shared with other projects

Un-share with all projects

To unshare with all projects in the instance, do the following:

  1. Navigate to the project you want to unshare.

  2. Click on the Share icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Execution Plan.

  3. Click on the Un-share button.

Un-share with some projects

Clicking on the Un-share button will un-share an Execution Plan from all projects in the instance. To un-share from specific projects, perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to the Execution Plan you want to un-share.

  2. Click on the Share icon in the upper right-hand corner.

  3. In the Share Execution Plan input box, remove all projects from the input box except for those that will continue to use the Execution Plan.

  4. Click on Share.
